In association with PC Maritime, the Club has produced a collision avoidance training aid on CD Rom titled "Officer of the Watch". Included on the disk is a copy of PC Maritime’s electronic chart display system “Navmaster” which may be used to acquaint deck officers with the principles of electronic navigation.
The Club is currently working closely with a leading ship management company and a nautical software developer to produce a computer based training (CBT) programme covering the subject of chart corrections in depth. For junior officers CBT is rapidly becoming the shipboard training method of choice, particularly if the programme offers a high degree of interactivity.
The package contains over four hours of material and incorporates many graphics and video clips, broken down into several modules. It also includes questions which must be answered successfully after finishing each module and a comprehensive assessment on completion. Members will receive a copy of the programme in the near future and other subjects may be
tackled in a similar manner if the feedback is positive.
