The Club’s local correspondent Egyptian Marine Insurance Consultations & Services (EMICS) has produced a useful guide outlining precautionary measures to help defend fender damages claims at Alexandria and El Dekheila.

Such claims are routinely submitted by the local port authorities; however, damage is often found to be pre-existing. A large number of fenders are reportedly already damaged due to age, cracking and inadequate maintenance. Given this, it is important to thoroughly document the condition of the fenders before berthing and record any pre-existing damage. Vessels should ensure that moorings are correctly tended throughout their stay to minimise the risk of damage and support the defence of any subsequent claims.

The EMICS circular can be seen here.
