Underwriter 

Department: Underwriting
Reports to: Deputy Head of Underwriting (London)

Overall Role Purpose:

To underwrite, market and provide advice and assistance to Members, potential members and their brokers, as set out in the Underwriting Policy, procedures and the Association’s Business Plan.

Key Responsibilities:

Underwriting: To assess the potential liability, exposure and appropriate rating levels and scope of cover for new and existing business. To identify and generate new business in line with the Association’s business and marketing plans by:

  • Collecting and analysing relevant underwriting information.
  • Carrying out appropriate risk assessment using available underwriting modelling tools.
  • Liaising with other departments as part of the due diligence process.

Renewals: To analyse members’ performance and exposure, and negotiate and process renewals for existing allocated members by:

  • Assessing risk and exposure using the available underwriting tools.
  • Reviewing fleets within the Metric modelling process.
  • To negotiate and renew any ancillary covers for fleets as applicable.
  • Liaising with the claims and loss prevention departments as part of the risk assessment process.

General administration: To ensure efficient and timely production of documentation relating to fleets entered in the Association.

  • To delegate to and manage the work of the allocated assistant(s) to ensure that their work is accurate, performed in a timely manner and meets the Underwriting department service standards.
  • To provide guidance, supervision and training to the assistants and other employees and third parties as required.
  • To check and authorise the issuing of all certification and trading documentation as required in the Underwriting policy.
  • Maintaining orderly manual and computer files in accordance with the Underwriting Department service standards.

Marketing: To visit Members, brokers and potential new business as directed and to be responsible for business development and promote the interests of the Association in the underwriters designated geographical areas of responsibility by:

  • Working with the marketing director in developing and maintaining the marketing plan.
  • Maintaining accurate records on marketing and business development by maintaining and updating of SWOT analysis and producing trip reports.
  • Monitoring member’s fleet development and reporting any material changes as appropriate.

Service: To provide the highest quality service to Members in line with the Association’s service standards. To work with all other offices and departments in line with the Association’s policies and procedures to ensure the Association’s goals are met.

  • To perform any other duties as may be requested in connection with any of the business of the Club.
