Argentina - New Underwater Keel Clearance Requirements - Paraná River and River Plata

Club Correspondents, Pandi Liquidadores, Buenos Aires have advised the Club about the introduction of a new regulation, Provision SNAV, NA9 No 27/2016, concerning a change in the minimum Under Keel Clearance (UKC) that vessels with drafts over 10.36 meters are required to have during transit of the Paraná River, Paraná de las Palmas River and River Plata.

The new regulation will be made compulsory 60 calendar days following the ratification date of 26 September 2016 and will supersede current Provision SNAV, NA9 No 028/2007.

According the additional increase to the minimum UWK of 0.60 meters will become applicable in the following areas:

Section Parana River (Timbues – San Martin – San Lorenzo Ports) – Parana de las Palmas River up to Km. 57:

  • For vessel with drafts equal or over 10.37 and up to 10.49 meters, an increase of three centimetres (3 cm) per additional centimetre of draft
  • For vessels with drafts equal or over 10.50 meters, ten percent (10%) of the static draft.

Section Parana de las Palmas River from Km. 57 up to Recalada Pilot Station:

  • For vessel with drafts equal or over 10.37 and up to 10.67 meters, an increase of one point five centimetres (1,5 cm) per additional centimetre of draft.
  • For vessel with drafts equal or over 10.68 meters, ten percent (10%) of the static draft.
