Brazilian Customs - Delivery Against Original Bill of Lading

Our News Item of 12 May 2017 provided a detailed guide to cargo clearance and delivery procedures in Brazil prepared by the Club’s local correspondent Proinde. The foreword to that guide said inter alia that “there have been recent regulatory changes in that it is possible, under certain circumstances, for importers to take delivery without the need to surrender the original bill of lading.”

Proinde have now advised that the situation in this regard has been further clarified in Brazil such that cargo cannot be delivered from customs control without production of an original bill of lading.

Details of this helpful protection for carriers can be found Brazilian Customs and we are grateful to Proinde for this additional advice.
