Equatorial Guinea: Entry into territorial waters

The Club’s correspondents, Elvedt & O’Sullivan, have advised that a vessel entering the territorial waters of Equatorial Guinea without prior notice and/or  without flying the Equatorial Guinea courtesy ensign is likely to be detained by the authorities and fined in excess of US$50,000.  Arrangements to pay such fine may take some time and the vessel will be detained until the fine is paid.

Members are advised that vessels intending to enter the territorial waters of Equatorial Guinea should inform the local authorities via their local agents beforehand and  ensure that they fly the Equatorial Guinea courtesy ensign.  The flag of their own country of registry should also be flown at all times whilst in Equatorial Guinea’s territorial waters.

For further information Members should contact the Managers.
