Piracy Update – Best Management Practices (Version 2)

Following further consultation with industry, an updated version of “Best Management Practices to Deter Piracy in the Gulf of Aden” has now been published. The amendments were made with the involvement and support of the International Group of P&I Clubs.

The changes are based on the experience gained since the original document was issued in February 2009 and take into account that the end of the SW monsoon may lead to a corresponding increase in piracy attacks.

The revised document includes updated information regarding registration and reporting, transit corridors, protective measures, weather, ship manoeuvring and communications in the event of an attack.

Members are urged to place copies aboard their vessels and ensure that the advice is followed. If further information is required, please contact the Loss Prevention department.
