USA - Ballast Water Discharge Rule - Fouling and Sediment Management

In May 2012 Members were advised that the United States Ballast Water Discharge Rule would enter into force on 21 June 2012. The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has recently published guidance to assist Marine Inspectors and Port State Control Officers when evaluating a vessel’s Ballast Water Management (BWM) Plan. In particular the guidance details US expectations with regard to Fouling Maintenance and Sediment Removal Procedures.

Members are advised to ensure that the procedures on board their vessels meet the standards set out in the USCG Guidance on Verification of Fouling Maintenance and Sediment Removal Procedures.
