Canada – Marine Carrier Codes and Advance Commercial Information (ACI) Submissions – Update

Further to the news article which was posted on the Club’s website on 5 June 2013, the Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) recently issued a Customs Notice  regarding this issue.

Although marine agent carrier codes were originally due to expire on 30 September 2013, the CBSA has extended the transition period until 30 January 2014 to ensure that carriers have sufficient time to apply for a carrier code and to obtain a customs bond (if required). Regarding the latter, the CBSA strongly recommends that marine carriers apply for a bonded carrier code and the Customs Notice includes examples of when such a bond may be needed. A list of Acceptable Bonding Companies can be found on the CBSA’s website.
