Oil Pollution in Pointe Noire, Congo

We are grateful to our local correspondents TCI Africa for bringing to our attention an on-going problem at Pointe-Noire. A pipeline damaged by dredging operations is leaking oil into the port area and no steps have so far been taken to stem the flow or clean the oil. As a result some berths in the port have been impacted and which may also lead to contamination of vessel hulls.

Details of the problem, some practical steps to be taken in mitigation and the assistance that can be offered by TCI Africa are given in the attached briefing note issued by them.

Members requiring further information concerning trading to this port should contact TCI Africa or the Managers.
