USA - California Air Resources Board Amendments to the Ocean Going Vessels Fuel Rule - Update

Further to our news article of 23 September 2011 entitled “USA – California Air Resources Board Amendments to the Ocean Going Vessel Fuel Rule”, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has now issued an update concerning the implementation of the new requirements.

The administrative process to bring the amendments into effect is in progress, and CARB expects that the legally effective date of the new requirements will be between 28 October 2011 and 27 November 2011. In order to provide vessels and owners with sufficient lead time to comply with the new requirements, CARB will begin to enforce the amendments to the Ocean Going Vessels Fuel Rule on 1 December 2011.

Members are therefore advised to review the detailed changes to the regulation, and to ensure that their vessels comply with the new requirements from 1 December 2011.
