The Club recently hosted seminars in Piraeus and Limassol on General Average (GA).
Each seminar was attended by about 60 guests from ship owners and brokers.
The seminars first addressed GA in the context of Club cover and the relationship with an owner’s Hull Cover, with particular reference to Hull Sacrifice.
Club Cover Presentation
There followed a presentation on the key trigger for Club cover being a breach of the contract of carriage and the role the Club takes in early investigation into causation in order to be ready to defend owners’ interests when adjustments are finally published.
Due Diligence Presentation
There followed two technical presentations from the Loss Prevention Department addressing key technical failures leading to GA incidents. This was illustrated by reference to two cases studies.
Technical Management Presentation and Case Studies
The final presentation was given by guest speaker Costas Karaloizou from Cyprus based adjusters Albatross. Costas gave key insights into aspects of GA and addressed the special considerations that need to be taken into account when approaching potential GA on mega containerships.
